For most women, an expanding pregnancy body is not the most fun thing to dress. I have this weird hang-up about spending money on “maternity clothes” I’ll only wear when I’m pregnant. I have come up with a pretty good solution for this. You only really need a couple of “maternity items” during your pregnancy. The rest of the stuff you buy can be normal clothing. Here are a few things you can do to make sure you’re able to dress your body appropriately without spending a lot of money on stuff you’ll never wear again.
1. Buy 2 pairs of basic Maternity Jeans
Get 1 pair of light jeans & one pair of dark for evening wear. A lot of the maternity jeans now don’t even look like “pregnancy pants” because they just have the elastic built right into the hips.
The best site for very affordable maternity wear is Asos.com ….you can get jeans from 20-80$ on their site.
The best part is its free shipping & free returns & they always have amazing sales.
2. Buy Some Maternity Leggings
The best, most comfy way to dress during pregnancy is definitely by wearing leggings. You can just throw on whatever moo-moo or baggy top you have & put it with leggings. Once again, Asos has some great ones for anywhere from 10$-$40. Get a couple different colors to keep it interesting.

4. Maxi Dresses
Maxi dresses are the answer. They can be worn pretty much year round (if you don’t live in an extreme climate) & are so versatile wether or not you’re pregnant. They cover every single bump & lump on your tummy, butt & hips. You can find maxi dresses from $10 & up. I like to buy cheapy jersey ones while I’m pregnant & buy them one size up. Try to buy ones where the seam is up under the breast instead of down low near the navel. You don’t want the seam to cut you in half.
4. Buy Loose Fitting Tops (Not necessarily “maternity”)
This is a good way to get around spending money on “maternity” clothes. By buying loose fitting, flowing tops, you can use them during pregnancy & after. I usually get them in one size up. I already wear lots of flowing, loose stuff, so this fits right into my wardrobe. I try to buy longer tops that I can wear with leggings. All these tops are from Asos.com
